First Snow

Clay and I had so much fun up at the cabin today!  I finally finished covering the dining chairs and got two more doors stained upstairs.  Clay moved all the deck furniture under the deck and put up the Christmas tree.  We also met the new neighbors across the street: Chris and Maxine. They just added 8 lovely blue spruce to their property.

A Month of Mice

The late summer rains produced a mice explosion that we're still dealing with! When Chris and I got here yesterday morning, there we collected 5 dead mice.  I spent about an hour cleaning out drawers and putting out new traps.  Hopefully this will be over soon or Stormy will have to come visit!

Brandon and and the kids are up while Jenn and Levi are back home taking it easy.  Chris is recovering from a concussion so is laying low.  Clay brought Peityn up because Casey has work today and Marta has school. The little cousins are very cute together!

We're in the Uglies right now with no leaves and no snow but the weather is perfect!  We'll have to take the kids for a hike later this morning.

We had a lot of fun at Aspen Lake this morning.  The sun was shining and there was a light film of ice on the lake.

Alyssa and Jason are here!

Alyssa and Jason came to Utah Tuesday night.  Wednesday evening we brought them, Chris and Easten up to the cabin.  When we first got here, Clay and I went to check on the baby flycatchers on the porch.  While we were looking at them, they all flew out of the nest at once! Thursday, Cheryl, Brandon, Jenn, Ruby and Wyatt came. We've been having fun going for hikes, riding the razor, and playing games.

This beauty was right outside the cabin on Thursday morning.

Jason and Alyssa drove the Razor out into the Uintas.
Alyssa was a confident driver.
We had a little picnic in the wilderness.

This unique little baby was out behind the deck on Thursday evening.  He had such unusual coloring!

On Friday we found moose tracks on Moose Trail.  We followed them almost all the way to Danger bridge.  And then we came across...

This wary momma and...

her beautiful babies!
This little baby was out in the woods all alone.

Cabin Safari

We had fun having a "safari" at the cabin this weekend! Uncle Chris hid the animals and Grandma drew a map.  Ruby and Wyatt were very good at finding them!  There were hundreds of butterflies out during the day.  Also, we found a nest with brand new baby birds in it behind the porch light by the front door. Grandma thought it was empty and accidentally touched a baby bird.  The daddy bird later came by and hit her in the head!

Brooke Came!

June 4014
Brooke came up with us and got a chance to drive the Razor.

When we were hiking on moose trail, these two deer seemed very curious about us! They kept coming closer and closer.

Spa delivery

Peityn, Nala and I came up to the cabin Friday, May 31st.  The spa got delivered early Saturday morning.  It was exciting to watch the crane swing the spa up and over the cabin and onto the deck! On our way to the cabin on Friday, we saw this bull moose hanging out in the meadow.  I always wondered when they start growing their antlers back.  Now I know!
There was a tiny wren couple going in and out of this birdhouse on Saturday.  So cute!

Eagle Project Research

Clay, Chris and I came up twice in May.  Chris was so worn out with end of year activities and deadlines that he slept most of the time. In this picture, he's scouting out where he'd like to do his eagle project.

Finally, most of the trees have leaves and a few wildflowers are starting to bloom.  We got the new deck furniture set up as well as the porch swing and Traeger grill.  Last night we made pizza on the grill which came out pretty good and today we made a pot roast that took forever and wasn't very good. After church we took a little drive around the neighborhood and saw a moose at Bench Lake. Chris drove.  One sad thing that happened is that we think the owner of the beaver pond at the end of Blue Spruce removed or killed the beaver.  So sad! How we loved watching him!  He was there in April when we brought Dad up.  Why would anyone want to hurt a beaver?  Someone on Facebook says he wants to put a road through the pond a build a reception center.  Stupid!

Dad and Les!

In the beginning of April, Dad and Les came up to the cabin for the the day.  We took them on a freezing trip around the neighborhood on the Razor and had sloppy joes for lunch.

Birthday fun with Kris

Kris Mansfield came up to the cabin with me for the day on March 13 for a belated birthday celebration.  Chris was suffering from a migraine so he came up with us. I didn't feel comfortable leaving him home alone!
We had fun eating lunch, visiting and going for a walk with Nala.  It was a beautiful day!

Cheslea's day as an only child

Chelsea and I came up the day after my birthday for a little R and R.  The night we got up here, there was a light blinking on the message machine.  It was the Summit county sheriff's office warning that there were criminals on the loose and that we shouldn't open the door to strangers.  Scary!  But Nala and Georgie protected us.  Plus there was a BB gun in the garage.  Clay came up Thursday morning and played in the snow with us.  It was snowing pretty hard so the snowmobile trip was cut short. but it was still a great day.

Fun in Snow

The snow was amazing up here this weekend!  Down in the valley it's rainy and mucky.  We came up Saturday afternoon, went to church up here yesterday, and are having fun playing in the snow today.
